CSA AFRICA PYTHON WORKSHOP 2025

The CSA Africa 2025 Python Workshop ran physically from 14–31 July 2025, in partnership with the Department of Computing and Informatics, University of Nairobi, Kenya. The three-week intensive workshop delivered three concurrent learning tracks Python Fundamentals, Software Engineering, and Data Science with 14 tutors and volunteers supporting 130+ participants from 9 African countries (Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Eswatini, Cameroon, and Togo).

About 51% of the participants were women. Childcare support was provided for 6 parents, including one mother who attended with her three-year-old son. Local travel reimbursement was provided for 37 learners, and accommodation on campus for 89 learners. As part of the programme, a mini-conference brought together industry experts to speak on career opportunities, scholarship pathways, and professional networking.

Participants reported immediate improvements in confidence, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. Working in teams, they delivered innovative projects addressing real-world challenges including Ujamaaflow (a web app linking donors with families in need), a Food Security Early Warning System predicting crises three months ahead, and NakujaliJirani (guiding healthcare providers via safe routes).
