About

CSA Africa is hosting a 3 round coding contest designed to challenge and reward the coding skills of programmers from Africa.

Who is eligible to participate?

The contest is open to programmers residing in Africa who are seeking to test out their programming skills using the python programming language.

Competition Format

3 Round competition.

​

In each round, contestants choose to answer basic or intermediate challenges (a mix of both categories is NOT allowed). Answering Intermediate questions will be worth more points. 

​

Round 1: (Opens 9:00AM Monday, 3rd April. Ends 9:00PM Friday, 7th April) 

  • 10 questions (6 basic questions, 4 intermediate questions).

  • Completing 1 basic challenge = 10 points (maximum points available is 60).

  • Completing 1 intermediate challenge = 20 points (maximum points available is 80).

  • Contestants with a minimum of 60 points advance to Round 2.

 

Round 2: (Opens 9:00AM Monday, 10th April. Ends 9:00PM Friday, 14th April)​

  • 8 questions (5 basic questions, 3 intermediate questions).

  • Completing 1 basic challenge = 20 points (maximum points available is 100).

  • Completing 1 intermediate challenge = 40 points (maximum points available is 120).

  • Contestants with a minimum of 60 points advance to Round 3.

Round 3: (Opens 9:00AM Monday, 17th April. Ends 9:00PM Friday, 21st April)

  • 5 questions (3 basic questions, 2 intermediate questions).

  • Contestants with over 60 points are eligible for prizes.

  • Completing 1 basic challenge = 30 points (maximum points available is 90).

  • Completing 1 intermediate challenge = 60 points. (maximum points available is 120).

FAQ

Qs: Can coders using other programming languages different from Python participate in this contest?

Ans: For this first iteration, our coding contest is strictly for Python programmers, and it is administered via HackerRank.

Qs: Can I solve both intermediate and basic questions?

Ans: No, if you answer the intermediate questions, you should only be solving intermediate questions. If you choose to answer basic questions, you must answer only basic questions.

Qs: What time zone is the contest scheduled around?

Ans: All times are in Western African Time (WAT).

 

Qs: How do I sign up for round 2?

Ans: Contestants that score over 60 points in round 1 will automatically get sent an invitation to round 2.

Qs: How do I sign up for round 3?

Ans: Contestants that score over 60 points in round 2 will automatically get sent an invitation to round 3.

 

Qs: What if 2 contestants have the same score? How is the winner selected?

Ans: The person who has the first correct submission weighing a total of 60 points in the shortest time will place 1st (please note that the time starts counting from the start of the contest, i.e., 9AM on Monday 03 April for round 1).
